Therefore adding water to cosmetics will contemporaneously necessitate the introduction of chemicals to eliminate microorganisms.

Those added chemicals (typically harmless salts called parabens) act as both a bactericide and fungicide.

Emulsifiers

Since as we all know that oil and water don’t mix, even more chemicals, know as emulsifiers, are needed to bind the oils to the water in cosmetics.

So, it is not bad to add water to cosmetics. Adding water just means cosmetics manufacturers also need to add parabens and emulsifiers to their product.

This is why if you are purchasing natural or organic products that you should:

1. Make sure if water is an added ingredient, that parabens are also added. This will eliminate the possibility of mold.

2. Purchase natural cosmetics don’t have water as a listed ingredient.
